Artist Statement

I love to capture people in watercolor. I am intrigued by human emotion and the human experience. I intuitively choose the people I paint. They represent the common man, those who are not often noticed but still have their story to tell. I want to capture that moment and reveal the emotion behind the mask. Through the transparency of watercolor, I build the character and complexity of a person, layer by layer. It is about captur ing the person, the moment and t he light. I work from black and white photographs taken during events or while traveling. The black and white format gives me the opportunity to see contrast clearly and allows me to create my own palette.
