“A painting exposes the limitation of words.” -- Scott Christensen
While living in Weisbaden, Germany, Mary Alice began formal art training with the noted museum curator, Heinz Hertzfeld. Upon returning to the U.S. she has built extensively upon Hertzfeld’s foundation studying at the Denver Art Museum; the Art Students League of Denver with Quang Ho, Sandra Kaplan, Margaretta Gilboy, and Rick Brogan; and with noted artists Tim Deibler, Mark Nelson and Brenda Hendrix.
Mary Alice has presented four one-woman shows. The most recent in November 2011, raised $23,000 for research into Alzheimer’s disease and triple negative breast cancer, diseases that shortened the lives of the artist’s mother and daughter. In juried exhibits she has garnered numerous awards and was featured promotional artist for the Art Students League of Denver’s “Face It” portrait exhibit. Spring on Fall River, painted in Rocky Mountain National Park, was awarded Paint the Parks Top 100. This juried exhibition honoring America’s national parks is one of the country’s wealthiest painting competitions.
In addition, Tributary, painted on the Colorado River near Moab, Utah, received Paint America’s Top 200 designation.
