Lora Witt - That Far Off Day Lora Witt - That Far Off Day

Throughout her life, award-winning artist Lora Witt has an intense respect for the natural world. An avid outdoors enthusiast, Wittʼs canvases reflect the harmony between humanity, the world and its hidden beauty.

The West has played an important role in grounding this artistʼs perspective. Raised in Colorado by a family deep in artistic merit, Witt has combined her educational experiences from Colorado State University, University of Denver, and The Art Students League of Denver to provide the skill set and unique vision she brings to her paintings. An enduring interest in Western botany and geography has been a consistent theme in Wittʼs body of work. Understanding the science behind our natural world has presented a truer picture of the artistʼs intent and has provided the foundation for Wittʼs urban- naturalist style.

Artist Statement

...the hillside weed, tangle of tamarisk stalks, or a murky forgotten pond ...the mundane part of nature that shies from notice; given a second glance presents its beauty. This is what I paint.

...the cool shadows through summer trees, early morning color reflecting along a river, or the fickle ever-changing sky ...the enchanting part of nature that awakens the senses. This is what I present.

...the ideas captured on a sketch pad, eagerness to return to the studio ...brushes at hand, oil tubes squeezed. This is how I begin.

Lora Witt is a Denver native who captures on canvas the unnoticed intimate landscapes she finds throughout the west.
